To share this story before time will abate all my memories of this 30.5 hour day.
September 9th of 2019. The day my special girlfriends planned a very special baby shower. I did not expect to have anyone let alone friends from good ‘ole undergraduate days to plan a celebration to celebrate a special little human being.
I kept thinking about planning one for myself since I had many requests to do so and it is a popular behavior in America. After pondering and planning it in my head I decided to forgo it. I could not find it within me to create a celebration that would essentially center around myself. It would seem too premature so I had decided I would plan one after the little one arrived. Any excuse so I would not have to be center of attention! Fast forward back to Sunday the 9th and here I was the guest of honor to a party of 9! Looking back and during the time I could not believe friends came out to help me celebrate. I have not had such a more beautiful friends celebration in my life. The location was picture perfect, Urban Tea. After indulging in sandwiches, chocolate, tiny desserts, and bubble tea we all parted ways except for a few of us who stayed behind to chatter a little while longer at the neighboring Which Which. I left to go home around 4pm.
I arrived home. It was day 263, from conception to now. That is about 37.6 weeks. My calculated due date was that Thursday. We were playing a board game we had purchased with our Target gift card given to us as a wedding present. About an hour into playing, I felt some fluids come out of me. I thought perhaps I laughed so hard some peepee came out on accident. I went to the restroom and wiped myself. Went back to playing, but more fluids would come out. I went back to the restroom and instead of clear fluid it was bright red. Not too much, but enough to warrant some attention. I did not know it then, but my amniotic fluid had ruptured spontaneously, aka my water broke. I was hoping it wasn’t so because I was having no contractions. I had no idea what contractions even feel like so I was confused. I kept thinking only 10% or less of women have their water break before contractions. This can’t be me! We called my OB and he let us know to go to the hospital right away. This occurred around 10pm. So we packed our bags and rushed out the door to drive a little under 30 minutes to the hospital in the Big City. I chose the OB who would bring the little package into the world very carefully. I could have delivered right down the street from our home, but decided the people who help you through this experience was more important than convenience and a large, brand new state-of-the art facility. I am so glad I chose this path and am thankful for my nurse friend who referred me to my OB. Thank you Sam!
